As we approach the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations, the world’s leading instrument of shared progress, its purposes and principles remain as important as ever. The Organization, and its ethos of international cooperation, have yielded great and wide-ranging benefits to humankind, helping to lift millions out of poverty, uphold human rights and forge peace in troubled lands. In today’s rapidly changing world, our enduring and Charter-driven duty is to build on those achievements and ensure that all people can enjoy safety, prosperity and dignity. In that spirit, the Secretary-General’s Annual Report on the Work of the Organization offers a perspective on the state of our world – and accounts for the results the United Nations Secretariat delivers.

World Habitat Day, observed on the first Monday of October each year, supports UN-Habitat’s mission towards transformative change in cities and human settlements – to leave no one and no place behind. Building on last year’s theme “Municipal Solid Waste Management”, this year’s theme is “Frontier Technologies as an innovative tool to transform waste to wealth”. The global observation of the World Habitat Day 2019 will be hosted by the Government Mexico in Mexico City on 7 October this year.

Collective action across 150 countries is what makes World Food Day one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar. Hundreds of events and outreach activities bring together governments, businesses, NGOs, the media, and general public. They promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure healthy diets for all. Make #WorldFoodDay your day – share your individual action for #ZeroHunger or join the call by developing a group event or activity.
World Food Day Poster contest (Age 5-19)
We’re calling on children and teens all over the world, from age 5 to 19, to use their imagination and create a poster that illustrates their idea of what needs to be done to make healthy diets available for everyone and how each of us can improve our diets. Young minds will be inspired by our World Food Day Activity Book that shows why healthy eating matters and how everyone can come together and take action to achieve better nutrition and #ZeroHunger.
Take a photo or scan your poster and submit your entry by filling out the form on our website. The deadline is 8 November 2019.
Three winners in each age category will be selected by our jury and announced here in December. Winners will be promoted by FAO offices around the world and receive a surprise gift bag and Certificate of Recognition.
To participate, you must be age 5 – 19. The deadline for entries is 8 November 2019.
