International Human Rights Day

DEC 10 this International Human Rights Day, the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights(UDHR):"a milestone document proclaiming the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status "The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has organized a campaign on the theme of We Can all be Human Rights Champions [hashtag #Standup4humanrights.]

Join WCCI youth (aged 15-24) in commemorating Human Rights Day on December 10th by making a video recording (mp4) of yourself giving a one minute statement in support of the fulfillment or protection of human rights (civil, political, economic, social or cultural)!

Since the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, there have been other declarations, conventions and treaties on specific human rights, including the Canadian Charter on Rights & Freedoms (e.g. right of non-discrimination; women's human rights; rights of the child; rights of persons with disabilities; rights of migrant workers; rights of indigenous peoples; right to organise and collective bargaining convention; rights of refugees; convention against torture; right not to be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile etc).

World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) 50th Anniversary

This virtual event celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of WCCI as a transnational educational organization with the vision and mission of building a peaceful, just and sustainable world!

The two-hour program featured:

  • A Multi-Faith Prayer
  • Reflections by
    • Eminent friends of WCCI, including former Deputy Secretary-General, United Nations, Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhury and pioneering educator for peace and human rights, Betty Reardon;
    • WCCI Presidents and officers and ExecutiveBoard members;
    • Leaders, members and youth representatives of Chaptersand national groups;
  • A TRIBUTE in honour of Dr. Estela Matrianoon her retirement as the Executive Director and for her distinguished contributions to WCCI for over 40 years
  • Cultural performances (song, dance,music)
